My mom has been wanting to get back into "hiking shape" this summer, so she wants to do the Tourne close to every day for the next few weeks then I'll take her on one of my bigger hikes! We went today and it was gorgeous out! More crowded since it was a Friday afternoon, but everybody's so friendly, and living in the area it's not uncommon to see familiar faces.

Another lunch at the top of the Tourne. My friend and I wanted to get caught up after having been away from eachother for a while so we took the quick hike to the top! It was a pretty uneventful hike, but we did see a couple of toads that both took me by surprise (oh the wonders of camouflage). Views were limited due to the season and overcast, but NYC was still slightly visible in the distance.

I named him Buddy Number 1.

Cloudy day, with enough squinting we could make out the Empire State Building and One World Trade Center... and that strange slim-jim shaped building uptown.

The Tourne is a classic hike for anyone in Denville/Boonton/Mountain Lakes. It's my favorite "social hike" in my area. It's a quick hike to a scenic view of of the valleys and hills of Morris County and Manhattan out in the distance. From the parking lot you hop on the red trail, and take the first left onto the yellow trail and follow that up to the top of the Tourne.

From the overlook, you then continue to follow the yellow trail back down the mountain, and then at the bottom turn right where the red trail joins the yellow trail and follow it back up and veer left to stay on the red trail to the parking lot.
